![]() ![]() The spokesperson told reporters: "We remain confident we will win the upcoming court case and continue our close partnership with the Rwandan government." ![]() The prime minister's official spokesperson has today said he won't comment on the "speculation" and reiterated the government's commitment to the Rwanda policy. It was first floated as an idea back in 2020 when Priti Patel was in charge of the Home Office, but it was rejected at the time as impractical. The government is currently appealing to the Court of Appeal against a ruling that deemed the flagship scheme unlawful, but should that be unsuccessful, Ascension Island - which is both isolated and volcanic - has been touted as an option. It has been reported in the last few hours that ministers are considering housing asylum seekers on the southern Atlantic island of Ascension if the Rwanda plan is found to be illegal. ![]()
